For years, Paula Burns, an Air Force pilot and now a successful senior executive with a large aerospace company, learned how to read the warning signs for a plane in imminent danger. As a highly successful female business leader she is still learning how to watch out for her warning signs of when she is overloaded and in imminent danger of being overwhelmed. She has found that being self-aware and listening to herself inching emotionally up towards a “yellow almost red light” reins in her feelings of being overwhelmed. Exercise, mentors, friends and therapy are all part of her routine to take care of herself.
